Anchorage
Anchorage, the largest city in Alaska, is situated on the shores of Cook Inlet in the south-central part of the state. Home to about 286,000 people, it accounts for over 40% of Alaska's population. The city was founded in 1914, and its name means "anchorage." The climate is cool temperate maritime, with short summers (13-26 °C) and frigid winters (–15 to –1 °C).
